CAGES STATUS: WTLL
representatives have been working on obtaining the approval for two batting
cages at the WTLL complex since August 2007 when plans were first submitted to
the City of Torrance. We have had regular meetings since then including
two formal Parks and Recreations Commission Meetings (Oct 10, 2007 and Mar 12,
2008). In response to a request made at the initial Commission meeting,
WTLL representatives also participated in three meetings with the City's
Facilities Committee and local resident representatives (Dec 10, 2007; Jan 17,
2008; and Feb 7, 2008). Unfortunately, due to concerns expressed by the local
residents (namely traffic and parking), the Facilities Committee recommended a
denial of the batting cages at the most recent Parks and Recreations Commission
meeting on March 12. On the bright side, WTLL was successful
in deterring the Parks and Recreations Commission from issuing a similar
denial. Instead, the Commission acknowledged that progress was being made
and requested another three months in order for representatives
from WTLL, the City of Torrance, and the local residents, to resolve
ongoing concerns. As
such, we request your help in "Respecting Our Neighbors".
Towards that goal, we have added a "Respect Our Neighbors" link to
the website that addresses most of the known concerns. Please take a
moment to click on the link and become familiar with the suggestions for
improving our community relations. Also,
while we are working on adding visible reminders within the park, please follow
the proposed traffic flow plan by using the South gate (Halison
St.) as an "entrance only" and the North gate (Towers
St.) as an "exit only" for all WTLL activities. Last one
out ... lock the gate(s). Your cooperation is greatly appreciated! For
your review and information, listed below are the documents that were submitted
at the latest Parks and Recreations Commission meeting.

They will continue to take pictures until all the teams have been photographed.
